Two popular beaches aren’t safe for swimming right now, according to the provincial government.

The department of Natural Resources says elevated bacteria levels have been detected at Rainbow Haven beach in Cow Bay and Clam Harbour beach.

The public is being asked to avoid the water as it may cause illness, the department says.

The advisory is expected to remain in effect for “a few days” until testing shows the water is safe.
