According to the province’s monthly COVID-19 epidemiologic summary, February saw 1,595 positive PCR results, a steep drop from January, which reported 3,389. The number of COVID-19 deaths decreased last month as the summary says 15 people died due to the virus, compared to 53 the previous month. Of the 15 deaths, 13 were in people aged 70 and older, and five were long-term care residents. There was also a drop in the number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 in February. The province reported 119 people were hospitalized in February, a drop from 189 in January. According to the province, age and under-vaccination continue to be associated with severe outcomes, as Nova Scotians aged 70 or older are 29 times more likely to have been hospitalized compared to 18-49 years of age.
