Nova Scotia reports 9 COVID deaths in July

Although there were fewer deaths when compared to June, positive PCR tests and hospitalizations are up

Nova Scotia is reporting 9 deaths from COVID-19 in the month of July.

Of those, six or 67 per cent were 70 years or older, and three or 33 per cent were residents of long-term care facilities.

However, in its epidemiologic summary for last month, which was released today, the province said that number should be “interpreted with caution” as “deaths are subject to a lag in reporting.”

Although there were fewer deaths when compared to June, the number of hospitalizations and positive PCR tests are up, with 225 admitted to hospital due to the virus and 8,650 positive results.

In June, the province reported 20 deaths, 148 hospitalizations and 7,570 lab confirmed cases.

“Age and lack of vaccination continue to be associated with severe outcomes,” the summary stated.

“Unvaccinated Nova Scotians were hospitalized at nearly four times the rate and died more than three times the rate as those with three or more doses.”
