Nova Scotia reports 82 people in hospital due to COVID-19

The province is issuing abbreviated COVID-19 releases over the weekend

Nova Scotia is reporting on Saturday that there are 82 people in the hospital who were admitted due to COVID-19.

All of those patients are receiving specialized care in a COVID-19 designated unit.

Of those 82 patients, 79 were admitted during the Omicron wave. As of Jan. 22, there are 11 people in the ICU.

The ages of people in the hospital range from 23 to 100-years-old.

Nova Scotia also indicates there are two other groups of people in the hospital related to COVID-19.

One group includes 84 people who were identified as positive upon arrival at the hospital but were admitted for another medical reason or were admitted for COVID-19 but no longer require specialized care.

The second group includes 121 people who contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to the hospital.

On the weekend, Nova Scotia is issuing abbreviated COVID-19 releases. The online dashboard won’t be updated until Monday, Jan. 24.

The number of COVID-19 admits and discharges from the hospital aren’t available today.

On Jan. 21, Nova Scotia Health Authority labs completed 3,682 tests. There are also 502 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The province reports the following number of cases in each zone:

  • 219 in Central Zone
  • 88 in Eastern Zone
  • 59 in Northern Zone
  • 136 in Western Zone

Quick Facts:
— a state of emergency was declared under the Emergency Management Act on March 22, 2020, and has been extended to Feb. 6, 2022
