Nova Scotia reports 11 COVID deaths in December

There were 165 hospitalizations and 3,014 positive PCR test results

Nova Scotia is reporting 11 deaths from COVID-19 in the month of December.

Of those, 10 were 70 years or older, and four were residents of long-term care facilities.

In its epidemiologic summary for last month, which was released today, the province is also reporting 165 hospitalizations and 3,014 positive PCR test results.

In November, the number of deaths has been raised to 37 (from the originally reported 24) and there were 158 hospitalizations and 2,656 positive PCR tests.

“Deaths are subject to a lag in reporting,” the summary cautioned. “The number of deaths reported in the current and previous months should be interpreted with caution.”

It added age and lack of vaccination continue to be associated with severe outcomes.

“Nova Scotians aged 70+ have been hospitalized at almost 19 times the rate of those 18-49 years of age and their rate of death is 280 times higher compared to those under 50 years of age,” the summary stated.

“Unvaccinated Nova Scotians were hospitalized and died at almost three times the rate as those with three or more doses (hospitalized = 2.7; died=2.5).”
