Nova Scotia now has 58 people in hospital due to COVID-19

Nova Scotia is reporting that 58 people are currently in the hospital due to COVID-19 as of Jan. 15.

The province reported that 57 people were in hospital on Friday due to the virus.

Currently, 10 people are in the ICU.

The age range of those in the hospital is between 0 and 100-years-old; the average age is 66.

Of the 58 people currently in the hospital, 55 were admitted during the Omicron wave.

Nova Scotia also notes that there are two other groups of people in the hospital related to COVID-19/

Fifty-one people were identified as positive upon arrival at the hospital but were admitted for another medical reason or were admitted for COVID-19 but no longer need specialized care.

The second group, which is 108 people, consists of people who contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to the hospital.

Nova Scotia is releasing abbreviated COVID-19 updates over the weekend. The online dashboard won’t be updated again until Jan. 17.

On Jan. 14, Nova Scotia Health Authority labs completed 4,124 tests. The province reports an additional 627 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

There are 339 cases in Central Zone, 113 cases in Eastern zone, 93 cases in Western Zone and 82 cases in Northern Zone.

The state of emergency that was declared on March 22, 2020 has been extended to Jan. 23, 2022.
