Some take weeks, others are lasting months.

As more cases of so-called ‘long COVID’ are reported, provinces are working to determine how to best support those with prolonged COVID-19 symptoms.

This week, Ontario’s science advisory table announced as many as 78,000 people in the province are experiencing post-covid-19 symptoms.

Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang says experts are still coming to understand long COVID.

“Some of my infectious disease and other colleagues are looking at this and saying what do we need to put in place in the healthcare system in Nova Scotia so people with prolonged symptoms from COVID get the appropriate supports and treatement,” Strang explained. “As you can appreciate this is very much an evolving field in healthcare.”

Common symptoms include joint pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, and brain fog.
