Nova Scotia Health to replace transformer after power outage at Victoria General

Nova Scotia Health (NSH) says it will replace a transformer that caused a recent power outage at the Victoria General.

On Wednesday, NSH said the transformer would be replaced within 24 hours and normal operations would resume by the end of the week.

This all comes after the Victoria General experienced a power outage just before midnight on March 6.

“While the generators were functioning, one of the building’s two transformers experienced a problem resulting in the power loss,” NS Health said in a release.

“After investigation of the internal issue, we asked Nova Scotia Power to transfer the building to a secondary feed, restoring full power to the building at approximately 5:30 a.m. Later Saturday, the Centennial Building returned to regular street power.”

It went on to say crews have been working to remove the affected transformer, test and install a replacement. A power shutdown is needed to connect and test the replacement transformer, which could last up to two hours.

According to NSH, as of Tuesday, 21 surgeries had been relocated from VG to other sites, and 39 surgeries had been rescheduled.
