Each patient is receiving specialized care in a designated COVID-19 unit. Currently, there are 16 people in the ICU. The age range of people in the hospital is between 1 and 100-years-old. The average age is 67. Of the 87 people hospitalized, 83 were admitted during the Omicron wave. Nova Scotia also designates two other groups of people who are hospitalized in relation to COVID-19. The first group includes 112 people who were identified as positive upon arrival to the hospital but were admitted for another medical reason, or were admitted for COVID-19 but no longer require specialized care. The other group consists of 132 people who contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to the hospital. On Jan. 28, Nova Scotia Health Authority labs completed 3,670 tests. The province also reports an additional 503 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases. The province reports the following number of cases in each health zone: 234 cases in Central Zone 67 cases in Eastern Zone 78 cases in Northern Zone 124 cases in Western Zone Nova Scotia is releasing abbreviated COVID-19 updates over the weekend. Its online dashboard won’t be updated until Jan. 31. “The number of COVID-19 admissions and discharges to hospital is not available today,” the news release says.
