(Halifax Regional Municipality) CANADAHALIFAX news New Barrington Street transit terminal to open Dec. 16 by admin 30 نوفمبر، 2024 written by admin 30 نوفمبر، 2024 239 CITYnews halifax / By Rachel Morgan The City of Halifax is gearing up to open its new transit terminal located on Barrington St. The terminal is part of the ongoing Cogswell District redevelopment. The Cogswell District project is the biggest city-building project in the history of Halifax, supporting 2,500 people, with a total cost of approximately $138.1 million. Beginning in Oct. 2023, the district, located in the east end of the city, has experienced various road closures associated with the redevelopment. Since June 2024, Barrington St., from Upper Water St. to Duke St., has been closed to support the redevelopment project. As a result, detours have been in place for motorists and 30 Halifax Transit routes have be rerouted. According to a release from the city, the new Barrington Street transit terminal is set to open on Dec. 16, which will be a stop for these transit routes. The transit terminal includes new heated shelters, additional seating and waiting space for passengers, as well as wider sidewalks and an additional bus bay. The city says new trees and landscaping elements will be installed in 2025. Valour Way, which was closed in Feb. 2023, will also re-open. The new roundabout, which partially opened in Oct., will be fully operational as of Dec. 16. Cogswell St. from Brunswick St. to Upper Water St. will open and the transit lanes along Barrington St will come into effect.
