N.S. pilot program to help train continuing care assistants more quickly

The provincial government says a pilot program aims to shave two months off the time it takes to train new continuing care assistants.

Government is partnering with Shannex and NSCC to offer a six-month program starting in April, with updated curriculum it says will better meet the needs of older Nova Scotians.

Barbara Adams, Minister of Seniors and Long-Term Care, says this move will allow for more CCA’s to be trained.

“Continuing care assistants play a critical role in the delivery of care to Nova Scotians. We owe it to them to make sure the training is up to date and reflects the needs of those they care for,” said Adams. “By delivering more responsive training faster, we can get CCAs providing quality care to home-care clients and long-term care residents sooner.”

Information and applications for the program can be found on the Shannex website.

Adams adds government is continuing to cover the tuition for CCA programs.
