الميلاد” لآدم كاي اندبندنت عربية / مارتن شيلتون كاتب وصحفي @MartinChilton تمثّل روبرتا إحدى شخصيّات سلسلة القصص القصيرة الجديدة والآسرة للكاتب ـزادي سميث، وتذكر أنها تعرفت إلى ديبي هاري أيام كانا في حي “إيست فيليج” في نيويورك. “ما الذي حدث لقدامى مروّجي ثقافة الـ”بانكس” ثمة عقول مستطلعة تتحرّق شوقاً إلى معرفة ما أصبحوا عليه”، تسأل روبرتا ثم تغرق في أفكارها. حسناً، يبدو أنّهم ماضون الواحد تلو الآخر في نشر قصص حياتهم، وآخرهم هاري، أيقونة فرقة “بلوندي” (Blondie) التي تروي حكايتها الصّاخبة مع الزّمان في “لنُواجه الأمر” (Face It). ويُعتبر الكتاب محاولة جديّة لسبر أغوار الرغبة في فهم الذات والتقدّم في السنّ واستيعاب العالم المليء بالأسرار والألغاز والأحاجي. وتظهر تلك الرغبة نفسها في كتاب يتضمن سّيرة ذاتية شخصية جديدة للممثّل الكوميدي ليني هنري، والمسيرة الخيالية لليرا بيلاكوا، الشخصية الرئيسة في رواية فيليب بولمان الأخيرة بعنوان “الكومنولث السّري”(The Secret Commonwealth). وفي ذلك الصدد، تشكّل العنصريّة موضوعاً مشتركاً آخر بين الكتب الرّائدة في شهر تشرين أول (أكتوبر) الجاري. إذ تدور حوادث إحدى قصص سميث القصيرة (في مجموعته المعنونة “الاتحاد الكبير”) حول مهاجر يتعرّض للقتل بطريقةٍ همجيّة في أواخر خمسينيّات القرن العشرين. ويتحدث كتاب هنري عن “حقبة ويندروش” التي نشأ الممثل فيها وعن قضايا التعصّب في بريطانيا الحديثة، مُلقياً الضوء على طريقة تعامل السلّطات الرّسمية المتخاذل مع سكان “برج غرينفيل”. كذلك يستعين المدرّس السابق بولمان، بشابة من ضحايا ذلك الحريق المؤسف لتسمية إحدى شخصيات كتابه، هي الطالبة في التعليم الثانوي نور الهدى الوهيبي. وفي مقلب آخر، يروي جون غريشمان في أحدث كتابٍ له بعنوان “الحراس” (The Guardians) قصة محامٍ يُحارب ويُكافح من أجل إخلاء سبيل متّهمٍ أسود بريء خذله النّظام القضائي الأميركي. وضمن تلك المشهدية، يعكس كتاب بولمان الخيالي بقوّة فوضى العصر الحديث. ويظهر أنّ القرن الواحد والعشرين الممزّق كان (ولا يزال) مصدر إلهام لا ينضب لكتّاب مرموقين، من العام 2019: “لنُواجه الأمر” (Face It) بقلم ديبي هاري ★★★☆☆ “يا لها من حياةٍ مثيرة عشتها”، تذكر ديبي هاري في مذكراتها التي تمثّل أصدق تعبير عن العلاقات الجنسيّة والمخدرات وموسيقى الروك أند رول. وبالنّظر إلى ما كشفته البطلة عن نفسها وتعاطيها الكوكايين، لا يسع المرء إلا أن يكون شاكراً لأن سيرتها غير قابلة للتعاطي على طريقة خدش أكياس الكوكايين وتنشّقها! وبوصفها عضواً في فرقة “بلوندي” (Blondie)، برزت هاري كواحدة من المغنيات الناجحات والمتميّزات في سبيعنيات القرن العشرين. وإنّ ما ترويه عن مسيرتها نحو النّجومية مسلٍّ وممتع جداً، لاسيما الجزء الذي تصف فيه أسلوب فيل سبيكتور بقضاء أوقاتٍ طيّبة مع فتاة وتمريره مسدساً على طول حذائها الجلدي ذي الرقبة الطويلة قائلاً “بانغ بانغ”، كأنّه يُقلّد الممثل الكوميدي دبليو سي فيلدز. أما الأجزاء الأشدّ تأثيراً في سيرة هاري الذاتية فتتعلّق بطفولتها ومراهقتها. إذ نشأت وترعرعت في عصرٍ فيه “القليل من المُلْهيات” والكثير من الوقت لأحلام اليقظة. واستطراداً، توجّب على هاري أن تتعايش مع الخوف والذّعر في سنٍّ مبكرة، سواء كان ذلك بسبب إقدام غرباء على إظهار أعضائهم الجنسيّة لها (حين كانت في الثامنة من عمرها) أو بسبب تعرّضها وصديقتها (قبل سنّ المراهقة) إلى المغازلة والتحرّش من قِبَلْ رجلين غريبين في أواخر الثلاثينات من العمر. وليس أحد هذين الرّجلين سوى بودي ريتش، عازف الجاز المشهود له عالمياً والبطل الخارق في عيون العديد من عازفي الطبول الذين ستتعرّف عليهم هاري في حياتها. وعلى الرّغم من وصف هاري لأوّل متحرّش يُظهر أعضاءه التناسلية أمامها بـ”الشاذ والمنحرف”، إلا أنها بدت أكثر تسامحاً حيال ديفيد بووي الذي “أخرج عضوه أمامها” تحت تأثير المخدرات، مكتفيةً بالقول إنه “كان يحب إخراج عضوه أمام الرّجال والنّساء على السّواء… ذلك أمر مضحك وظريف ومغرٍ في آنٍ معاً”. وإلى جانب ما سبق ذكره من مواقف غريبة، تحتوي مذكرات هاري المكتوبة بقلم كاتبٍ شبح على “سلسلة من المقابلات الحصرية الحديثة”. وفي إطار تلك المقابلات، تُكرّر هاري زعمها بأنّها قد تمكّنت من الفرار من سيارة يقودها السّفاح تيد بوندي. “صحيح أنّهم كذّبوا روايتي بقولهم إنّ بوندي آنذاك لم يكن موجوداً في نيويورك بل في فلوريدا. ولكنّني متأكّدة أنّه هو”، تؤكّد بإصرار وحسم. التخبط في العلاقات العاطفية والجسدية، والجرأة في الحديث عن تعاطي المخدرات، من النكهات التي أعطت “لنواجه الأمر” مذاقاً حريفاً (غيتي) وبنظر المعجبين بفن فرقة “بلوندي”، يُعتبر “لنُواجه الأمر” كتاباً غنياً بالمقتطفات المثيرة والأعمال الفنيّة الجميلة. ويحتوي القصيدة الشعرية التي كتبتها هاري عن مأساة 11 سبتمبر (أيلول)، إضافة إلى اعترافها الصرّيح بـ”مزاجيّتها الشديدة” و”مناصرتها القوية للبيئة” و”معاداتها لترمب وسياسته” وحبّها عمليات التّجميل “لأنها تُشعرك بأنك في حالة أفضل”. ويتضمن أيضاً ذكرٌ لعشق المغنية الكبير للمصارعة، ومعزّتها الخاصة لمارلين مونرو مدعومة بوثائق ومستندات. وإلى جانب ذلك، يكشف “لنُواجه الأمر” النقاب عن الألبوم المفضل لدى هاري، ونعني به ألبوم “آه يا أخي، أين أنت؟” (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) وهو من نوع موسيقى “البانك” أو الموجة الجديدة. وبشغف حقييقي، يعبّر الكتاب عن حبّ المغنية عازفي موسيقى الجاز: بيلي هوليداي ومايلز دايفيس وفاتس والر وأورنيت كولمان. وعن ظهورها في برنامج “عرض الدّمى” (The Muppet Show)، تُقرّ المغنية وتعترف بأنها أقدمت على تلك الخطوة تيمّناً بديزي جيليبسي، ليس إلا. والملفت في “لنُواجه الأمر” صراحة هاري بشأن عيوبها وإخفاقاتها. “لقد أُخذنا على حين غرّة”، تتحدث بتلك الكلمات مستذكرةً الفترة التي كانت فيها مفلسةً ومدينةً لـ”دائرة الإيرادات الدّاخلية” (IRS) بالآلاف من الدولارات. وكذلك تصرح عن سخريّتها من “الانفتاح الممل غالباً” في العصر الرّقمي. “في الأيام الخوالي، كان كلّ شيء يدور حول تحقيق الأحلام والأماني. أما في أيامنا هذه، فبات كلّ شيء يدور حول الشّهرة”، تُعلّق هاري التي كانت وجهاً فنياً رائداً وصادق النّوايا. “الاتحاد الكبير” (Grand Union) بقلم زادي سميث★★★ ★★ في ما يتعلّق بزادي سميث مؤلفة “الأسنان البيضاء”(White Teeth)، فقد دأبت على كتابة القصص القصيرة مذ كانت طالبة في الجامعة. ويمثّل “الاتحاد الكبير” (Grand Union) الذي يضم 19 أقصوصة، أول إصدار فعلي لها في ذلك الشكل. وفي كتاب “الاتحاد الكبير:، تُعبّر سميث عن خفة دم لاذعة تظهر جلياً في حوارات القصص، كـ”تُحوّلين كل شيء إلى مأتم” تقول فتاة مراهقة لوالدتها في افتتاحية القصة التي تحمل عنوان “جدلية” (Dialectic). وكذلك تبرز مهارة عالية في تركيب حتى أقلّ الشخصيات أهمية. وفي رواية “الآنسة أديل وسط المشدّات” (Miss Adele Amidst the Corsets)، تصف سميث تحرّكات مساعدة قسم المبيعات “المنفعلة” بالمرتخية والغاضبة كتحرّكات السجين خلف القضبان. لم يعد “لأيّ شيء معنى” بنظر الآنسة أديل الرّجعية التي ضاقت ذرعاً بأبناء الألفية الجديدة. وكذلك تسخر من أخيها التوأم ديفين الذي يتمحور وجوده حول “ثلاثة أطفال وكلب من فصيلة “لابرادور” وشعار “لا تجزعوا… إنّها عضوية!”. وبفضل أسلوبها التهكمي الساخر، تنجح سميث مرّة بعد اخرى في إمتاع القراء بموضوع كل أقصوصة، مهما كان قاتماً. وفي أقصوصة “الأسبوع الكبير” (Big Week) التي تتمحور حول شرطيٍّ أميركيّ موصوم يُدعى مايك ماكراي، تظهر حقيقة ذلك الرّجل الفاسد عبر الأفكار الثاقبة التي تُعبّر عنها الكاتبة في خاتمة قصيرة ونافذة. وفي مقطعٍ مؤثّر، تتطرّق ماري، ابنة الـ56 عاماً، إلى موضوع الأسرة ورعايتها والسبب الذي دفع بها إلى ترك زوجها. “بدأ الزمن يُعيد بناء نفسه بحذرٍ حول جسدها المكسور، فشعرت برغبة جامحة في المكوث لوحدها مرة أخرى”، تكتب سميث. وفي قصة أخرى بعنوان “كلمات وموسيقى” (Words and Music)، تُخبر سميث عن سيدتين عجوزتين “عاشتا فترةً طويلةً متحررتين من رجالٍ لا نفع لهم”. أعطت مجموعة “الاتحاد الكبير” القصصية أهمية كبرى لزمن التوقّف عن ارتداء الجينز في حياة المرأة المعاصرة (غيتي) وعلى امتداد سلسلة قصص “الاتحاد الكبير”، تُلقي سميث عيناً فكاهية وغير عاطفية على شخصياتها. ونلمس الخوف من الكهولة يتسرّب إلى “التربية العاطفية”. وفي “المحطة التالية كانونبيري. المحطة التالية انقطاع الطمث، وبعدها وداعاً لملابس الجينز”، تفكّر مونيكا أثناء ركوبها القطار. والمميّز في أسلوب سميث الساخر أنها تُولي التوقّف عن ارتداء الجينز أهميةً كبرى وتجعله في مصاف نقطة اللاعودة. إنها كاتبة منسجمة تماماً مع تعاسة حياة هذا العصر عِبْرَ إلقائها بقعة ضوء على البالغين الذين يتحملون أعباء قروضهم الدراسية أو من خلال تناولها مدمني وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي “المُرهقة” الذين لا ينقطعون عن التذمر. ومع الانتقال إلى أقصوصة “النّهر الكسول” (The Lazy River) الخالدة، نراها تُفّند فوضى البريكست (“قمر العام 2017 الذي ينمّ عن سوء نيّة”) في إطارٍ ممتع ولاذع عن الانقسامات الطبقيّة التي تظهر جليّة في حزم العطلات السياحية إلى إسبانيا. إذ نلحظ أنّ تلك الأقلية التي تُحذّر أطفالها من الإكثار من تناول رقائق البطاطس المقرمشة وتضع على أجسامهم كريمات واقية عالية الفعالية، تسبح عكس التيار لكنّها مع ذلك لا تفلت من سخرية سميث المضحكة. “حتى وهم في الماء يُحافظون على بعض الفروقات. لن يرقصوا الماكارينا”، بحسب الراوية. يُذكر أنّ سميث اللندنية تكتب دائماً بطريقة مثيرة للاهتمام عن مدينتها. وفي روايتها الأخيرة البسيطة بعنوان “الاتحاد الكبير” التي لا تتخطى الـ930 كلمة، نلمس محاولتها استكشاف العواطف العائلية على خلفية ما حدث في قناةٍ قريبة من “لادبروك غروف”. ومن بين الحكايات جميعها، “القضاء على كيلسو” (Kelso Deconstructed) هي الأكثر حزناً. وفي إطارها، تُذكّر والدة الكاتبة، إيفون، ابنتها بجريمة قتل مهاجر من أنتيغوا يُدعى كيلسو كوشران (32 عاماً)، طعناً بسكين على أيدي مجموعة من الشّبان البيض في “نوتينغ هيل” في مايو (أيار) من العام 1959. وآنذاك، خرج هؤلاء الشبان إلى الشارع لإثارة المتاعب لـ”ذوي البشرة الدّاكنة”. وبحسب سميث، كان اليوم الأخير لكيلسو الذي انتهى في “مستشفى سانت ماري” في بادينغتون، مؤثراً جداً وحزيناً. “مَن أنا، من جديد؟” (Who am I, again?) بقلم ليني هنري★★★☆☆ لم يكن ليني هنري قد تجاوز التّاسعة من عمره عندما تعرّض كيسلو كوشران للطعن. إذ نشأ الممثل الكوميدي وترعرع وسط ثقافة العنصرية التّافهة التي أرخت بظلالها على مرحلة ما بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية وروّجت بشكلٍ محبط لإهانات على شاكلة “ساذج” وزنجي”. آنذاك، كان من السّهل على المالكين وأصحاب الأراضي وضع لافتة كُتب عليها “ممنوع دخول السّود والإيرلنديين والكلاب” من دون التعرض إلى عقاب. “كان هناك احتمال كبير بأن تتعرّض للاغتصاب لو كنت كلب ولفهوند إيرلندي أسود اللون”، يقول هنري ممازحاً (ومستشهداً بكل أمانة بعبارة لكيم فولر). انطلاقاً من ذلك، يُمكن القول إنّ مذكرات هنري التي تسترجع شريط حياته وتُعيدنا إلى العام 1980، تأملية وكئيبة بامتياز. إذ يتحدّث فيها هنري عن الفنان الكوميدي صاحب البشرة السوداء، تشارلي وليامز وكيف كان يُنكّت على نفسه، متعمّداً “أن يكون السبّاق دوماً في إطلاق أفظع النكات العنصرية” كي يبقى على قيد الحياة. وكذلك يُوضّح في مذكراته أسلوب الفكاهة الذي تسلّح به في مواجهة الأحكام المسبقة، ما خلا الشجار الذي دار بينه وبين متدرّب زميل في مجال اللحام إثر نعته له بـ”الـ***ي الأسود”. آلام العنصرية اليومية والصراع ضدها في مسار حياة فنان أميركي- أفريقي، شكّلت خطاً درامياً أساسيّاً في “مَنْ أنا، مِنْ جديد؟” (غيتي) وفي سياقها أيضاً، يعترف هنري أنه “دفن رأسه في الرمال” متغاضيّاً عن العنصرية، حينما ظهر في برنامج “عرض منستريل للسود والبيض(The Black and White Minstrel Show) على مدى خمس سنوات. و”كذلك تفعل حاضراً قناة “بي بي سي” بتناسيها ضلوعها في البرنامج الذي تبيّن في نهاية المطاف أنه مصدر إحراج”. للأسف، لم تُساعده شخصيته العامة القريبة من الناس في الإفلات من نيران الإساءة. وبعد نشر صور المنزل الذي يعيش فيه مع زوجته داون فرينش في إحدى صحف الفضائح، رُسم رمز عنصري NF (الحرفين الأولين من اسم “الجبهة الوطنية”) على الباب الأمامي لمنزله بالبراز. وعند تفكيره في التّبعات المستمرّة لفضيحة “ويندروش” والمعاملة التي قُوبل بها ضحايا “برج غرينفيل”، يأسف هنري ويتمنّى “لو أنني بذلت جهداً أكبر لمكافحة العنصرية والتمييز”. ومع هذا كلّه، يغفل هنري التطرّق إلى بعض المواضيع المهمة. من المفهوم جداً أن يُعرب عن تقديره الكبير لبيل كوسبي في ستينيات القرن العشرين، والأرجح أنّه شعور مشترك بين الكوميديين الصاعدين في تلك الحقبة. في المقابل، من غير المفهوم، بل من المستغرب، ألا يُبدِ رأياً أو تعليقاً إزاء الوقائع الدنيئة التي تكشفت في ما بعد عن أحد أبطاله في الحياة. ومن ناحية اخرى، تتمحوّر الجوانب الأكثر تسلية للكتاب الذي يتضمّن مقاطع مصوّرة من تنفيذ مارك بكنغهام، حول ذكريات هنري المؤثّرة عن نشأته والألفاظ الشديدة التي اعتاد سماعها في صغره، بما في ذلك التعبير التالي: “أيّ هراءٍ هذا؟”. وصحيح أنّ هنري نشأ في “دودلي” في “ويست ميدلاندس”، لكنه “كان في جميع المقاصد والأغراض طفلاً صغيراً من منطقة الكاريبي”، وربما الطفل الوحيد القادر على تقليد سكوبيدو بالجامايكي. إلى ذلك، يكتب هنري بإسهاب عن لحظة اكتشافه أنّ Two) بقلم فيليب بولمان ★★★★☆ تعتبر ليرا بيلاكوا، البطلة التي لا تخاف ولا تكلّ بحثاً عن الحقيقة في الثلاثية الملحميّة الخيالية بعنوان “مواده المظلمة” (His Dark Materials)، أكثر شخصيات فيليب بولمان جاذبية. لذا نراه لا يتردد في الاستعانة بها في ثلاثيته الجديدة بعد النجاح الساحق الذي حققته ثلاثيته الأولى في 2000. وبعد ذلك، عادت لتطلّ علينا في دور الطفلة الشقية في “الحسناء المتوحشة: كتاب الغبار الجزء الأول” (La Belle Sauvage: The Book of Dust Volume One) (2017). ثم عادت مرّة اخرى في بدور ليرا سيلفرتونغ، الطالبة العشرينية في “جامعة أوكسفورد” في “الكومنولث السري… كتاب الغبار الجزء الثاني”. من وجهة نظر الناشرين، يمكن قراءة “الكومنولث السري” الذي يمتد على 686 صفحة “باعتباره رواية قائمة بذاتها”، مع العلم أنه قد يعود بفوائد أكبر على مَن يعرف ماضي ليرا الجريئة (“الأكثر شبهاً بقطة برية”) التي تُجسّدها دافني كين في الفيلم المقتبس عن رواية “مواده المظلمة” المزمع عرضه قريباً على شاشة “بي بي سي”. تتضمّن رواية “الكومنولث السري…” خيالات عن أعداد هائلة من الشياطين والسحرة والخيمائيّين الذين لا يختفون بضربة عصا سحرية (غيتي) في”الكومنولث السري”، تظهر ليرا كشابة مضطربة ومشرّدة تخشى على نفسها من “وحشيّتها” التي تجلّت بعد تشاجرها مع الشيطان بانتاليمون. وفي صفحات الكتاب الخيالي، يقدّم بولمان صورةً حيّة لشابة قلقة تخوض رحلة مليئة بالمغامرات في أعماق صحراء مجهولة في آسيا الوسطى. “ارتعشَتْ على حافة الدّوار”، وفق وصف بولمان. وتتضمّن رواية بولمان الجديدة شياطين وسحرة وخيمائيّين بأعداد هائلة لا يُمكن التخلّص منهم بمجرّد تصويب العصا السحرية نحوهم. وصحيح أنّ الرواية بأكملها من نسج الخيال، بحسب بولمان، لكنها أيضاً استعراض واضح للصراع بين منظمة استبدادية ترغب في تضييق الخناق على العقول المفكرة، وبين مناصري حرية التعبير والمعتقد. يستمر التوتر شديداً ومتواصلاً، وتكون ليرا في دائرة الخطر وتهاب “العالم الذي أضحى غير مستقر يوماً بعد يوم”. وكما يُتوقّع في الجزء الثاني كل ثلاثية روائيّة، ينتهي الكتاب فيما لا يزال كل شيء متوازناً. “تلك كانت النّوبة الليلية قبل الميلاد” (Twas The Nightshift Before Christmas) بقلم آدم كاي ★★★☆☆ يستتبع آدام كاي كتابه الأكثر مبيعاً بعنوان “هذا سيؤلم” (This Is Going to Hurt) بآخر غني بقصص مبهجة عن مسيرته المهنية كطبيب مبتدئ. يبدو أنّ الميلاد يشكّل الفترة الزمنية المثالية لتحوّل المأكولات من خزانة المؤونة إلى أفواه الناس الذين يُسارعون بعدها إلى قسم الطوارئ والحوادث في المستشفيات. والأرجح ألا يكون كتاب “تلك كانت النوبة الليلية قبل الميلاد” من النّوع الجدير بقرائته على مسامع الجدّات، على الرغم من أنّ طريقة سرد كاي لما حدث لمغني الـ”هيب هوب” الذي دفع لعاملة جنس كي تغرز دبابيس في عضوه الذكري، تكفي لإفساد مذاق كعكة الميلاد التقليدية، عند كل شخص. ويضاف إلى ذلك احتوائه على دروس كثيرة في الحياة، إذ يدعو كاي إلى توفير ورق الألومينيوم لطهي ديك الحبش في العيد بدلاً من استخدامها في التحنيط الجنسي، وكذلك عدم استخدام عيدان الحلوى كدمية جنسية، أوزبدة الفستق كمادة مليّنة أثناء الجُماع. أجواء عيد الميلاد بعين طبيب روائي، مع حوادث غرائبية وملتبسة في “تلك
