Mandatory water restrictions in effect for Lake Major customers: Halifax Water

by admin

CITYnews halifax / By Chris Halef

Halifax Water has officially implemented new mandatory water conservation measures for customers serviced by Lake Major.

The utility said the restrictions are in effect immediately, adding this will impact water service for communities in Dartmouth, Burnside, Cole Harbour, Westphal, North Preston and Eastern Passage.

This comes as the region continues to experience dry conditions and a lack of rainfall.

As a result, Halifax Water said the following activities are prohibited under mandatory Stage 1 conservation:

  • Watering lawns
  • Washing vehicles
  • Filling pools
  • Watering golf courses

According to Halifax Water, if residential and commercial customers fail to comply, they may receive a warning, a fine or suspension of service.

Halifax Water is also asking customers to voluntarily conserve water in other ways such as shortening your showers, turning off the tap when you don’t need it and if it’s yellow, let it mellow.

For more information on the measures and to find out if you’re impacted, you can head to the utility’s website.
