According to police, officers responded to a damaged Volkswagen Golf parked on the highway at about 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 21, and say the driver was standing beside the vehicle when police arrived. “While gathering information about the crash, the officer observed signs of impairment,” reads a media release from the RCMP. “The officer demanded the driver provide a roadside breath sample to which he refused and then tried to give the officer money to leave.” The Mounties say the driver was arrested for refusing the breath screening and was “combative” with the officer during the process.
