A man is facing nearly two dozen charges after an incident that saw an emergency alert issued in Cape Breton on Wednesday afternoon.

The RCMP says officers in Wagmatcook were called to reports of a fight between two people around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Police say one of the men reportedly left with a knife after behaving erratically.

“Police located the man at a residence on Humes Rear East Loop and found that he was in possession of a firearm, in addition to the previously reported knife,” police said in a media release. “The man made threats to himself and to officers on scene, and attempted to leave the area in two different stolen vehicles.”

The Mounties say the suspect managed to break into a different, unoccupied home nearby and barricaded himself inside.

The man left the home on his own at about 7:20 p.m. He was arrested and treated by EHS for injuries not related to his arrest, police say.

Coady James Isadore, 36, is now facing 22 charges including:

  • Break and enter to a dwelling house
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance (vehicle)
  • Utter threats
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Nine counts of failure to comply with a release order
