Man charged with sexual assault

A man has been charged with a sexual assault Tuesday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Police were called to the area of the Belchers Marsh Park trails just before 1:30 p.m.

They were told a woman was walking on the trail when a man she didn’t know touched her in a sexual manner.

Responding officers arrested a suspect nearby.

A 33-year-old man will appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.

“It is important for victims of sexual assault to know that we are here to help,” said HRP in a news release. “As part of our victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to sexualized violence, we work closely with victims and ensure their privacy is upheld and well-being is fully considered.”

“We encourage anyone who has been sexually assaulted or harassed to reach out to police.”
