A man is facing several charges after break and enters at three downtown Halifax businesses early Tuesday.

Halifax Regional Police were called to The B.P. Corner News on Barrington Street across from Scotia Square at around 3:15 a.m.

They say a man broke the front window of the store and tried to get in before running off.

While officers investigated, they were told of two more break-ins in the same area.

The first was at Snaxx on Upper Water Street near Halifax Transit’s Water Street Terminal.

Police believe the suspect broke a window but wasn’t able to get into the business.

Then the glass door of the Nic Nax General Store on Hollis Street near Prince was smashed and police say the suspect ran off with stolen merchandise.

A K9 unit helped track a suspect down, who was arrested a little further south on Hollis.

Charles Dylan Morgan Young, 28, is scheduled to appear in court today to face charges of:

  • Attempted break and enter
  • Break and enter (two counts)
  • Possession of break-in tools
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Mischief – property damage (three counts)

Young is also facing one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 in relation to a break and enter that occurred in June of 2021.
