Lower Sackville man arrested following hate-motivated incident, Mounties say

A 53-year-old Lower Sackville man has been arrested after what police are calling a “hate-motivated incident”.

Police say on Monday afternoon, a man approached a woman wearing a hijab outside the library on Sackville Dr. and threatened her.

The 21-year-old woman from Bedford was not hurt, police say.

The man meantime was arrested around 2:45 p.m. after police received information from a witness and security footage.

“Information gathered by investigators indicates that, although no assault occurred, the threats were motivated by hate based on religion,” police say.

The man will be back in a Halifax courtroom in June, charged with uttering threats.
