The Back-to-School Program is happening on Aug. 25 and 26, but Dr. Denise Daley, the executive director of Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank, says there is more demand this year than ever before. “Inflation has had an effect on our clients, on everyone, and our clients are reaching out for more assistance,” Dr. Daley told CityNews. Daley says last year the program provided over 900 backpacks, but this year applications for backpacks have exceeded their goal of 1,000, and while they have enough for about 1,100 applicants, there is a potential need for another 500. “Donations help families,” Daley explained. “If we work as a team, if we work as a community, we can reach those in need.” Daley says if you’re out shopping for your family, keep donations in mind and pick up a few extra supplies if possible. The program requires everything from backpacks to lunch bags and binders to writing utensils. For those looking to donate, people can drop off supplies any time at 2415 Maynard Street or any of their thrift stores located in Dartmouth or Spryfield. There is also a 5-kilometre walk happening at Point Pleasant Park on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 8 a.m., where you can drop off supplies, walk with and meet the team and learn about the initiatives for back-to-school programs for next year as well. “We are hoping more donations come in, more supplies come in so that we can help more families outside of our goal,” Daley explained. 0 comment 0 FacebookTwitterPinterestEmail admin previous post Nova Scotia daycare operators say sector in crisis next post “أشجان الفتى فيرتر” أنهار من الدموع ومنتحرون كثر من أجل رواية You may also like Investigation into homicide of pregnant Halifax woman continues... 24 نوفمبر، 2024 First Canadian case of more severe mpox strain... 2024 Wind and rainfall warnings issued for parts of... 2024 New poll shows Houston’s PCs maintaining big lead... 22 نوفمبر، 2024
