Halifax Regional Municipality says recent tests at the Porters Lake swimming spot indicate bacteria levels have exceeded Health Canada guidelines. “High bacteria levels can be caused by a number of factors, including dogs, birds, wildlife, and high temperatures,” HRM said in a news release. The water quality at all supervised beaches in HRM — which officially open Canada Day — along with two unsupervised beaches, is regularly tested in the summer months.
