The Halifax Regional Municipality announced Thursday, Aug. 18, Kinap Beach is closed to swimming.

The beach has been closed due to high levels of bacteria in the water.

Municipal staff regularly tests water quality at all supervised beaches during the summer months, and recent tests show bacteria levels exceed guidelines set by Health Canada for swimming.

High bacteria levels can be caused by several factors, including dogs, birds, wildlife, and high temperatures. Staff will continue testing the water until bacteria levels return to safe levels.

The municipality will advise residents when the beach reopens.

Check the municipality’s website for more information on Halifax’s municipal beaches and outdoor pools.
