Kearney and Albro Lake beaches closed to swimmers

Swimmers looking for a place to cool off won’t be able to take a dip at two popular beaches in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM).

HRM is reporting that Kearney Lake and Albro Lake beaches are closed for swimming until further notice.

According to the municipality, testing at the two beaches showed higher than acceptable levels of bacteria laid out by Health Canada. HRM staff regularly test the water quality at all supervised municipal beaches and two unsupervised beaches during the summer months. Several factors including birds, climate change impacts, dogs and birds can cause high bacteria levels.

HRM staff will continue testing the water until bacteria levels have reduced to safer levels.
