Joel Plaskett, Darrell Dexter among 2025 Order of Nova Scotia recipients

As 2025 draws to a close, this year’s Order of Nova Scotia recipients have been unveiled.

The Order of Nova Scotia is the province’s highest honour, recognizing people in many fields, from talented artists to community builders who make a difference.

The award was first established in 2001 and, since then, 132 members have been appointed.

This year, five Nova Scotians have been appointed, including musician Joel Plaskett and former premier Darrell Dexter.

The other three recipients are philanthropist and entrepreneur John George Fleming, business and community leader Rankin MacSween, and educator and advocate Carolyn G. Thomas.

Lt.-Gov. Mike Savage says these Nova Scotians have made meaningful contributions that have directly benefited Nova Scotians and Canadians.

The recipients will receive their award and appointment scroll at Government House in Halifax this spring.
