The province’s police watchdog has determined Halifax Regional Police weren’t responsible for a June crash that resulted in a broken leg for a pedestrian.

The Serious Incident Response Team says officers were at a Herring Cove Road apartment building for a theft/fraud investigation at around noon on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

The suspect sped off and a plan to stop the suspect’s vehicle was abandoned by the officers within seconds.

SiRT says the suspect vehicle drove 1.2 km before it crashed into another vehicle heading in the same direction, which was pushed up on the sidewalk where it struck the pedestrian.

In addition, three people in the car that was hit by the suspect’s vehicle were taken to hospital to be treated for soft tissue injuries.

“The actions that caused the injuries to the three occupants of the struck vehicle and the injury to the pedestrian are the sole responsibility of the actions and criminal behavior of the suspect operating his vehicle in a dangerous manner,” SiRT concluded.
