HRM under rainfall warning

by admin

CITYnews halifax \ By Dan Ahlstrand

Environment Canada says a low-pressure system over New England will cross the region Tuesday night and Wednesday. The system will bring rain which could be heavy at times, along with embedded thunderstorms that could create torrential downpours in an area of the province that stretches from HRM south to Yarmouth.

The national forecaster says total rainfall amounts will vary because of the embedded storms. Rainfall rates of 10 to 20 mm/h are generally expected, with rates of 30 to 50 mm per hour possible in the strongest thunderstorms.

As for total rainfall amounts, Environment Canada says HRM could see anywhere from 30 to 70 mm of rain before the system moves off and is warning of possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
