Halifax Transit fares to increase Sept 1

by admin

CITYnews halifax / By Mark Hodgins

As of September 1st, the adult single-ride fare on Halifax transit will increase by 25 cents to 3 dollars. Youth and senior fares will also increase by 25 cents.

A monthly adult pass jumps by $7.50 to 90 dollars.

During budget deliberations earlier this year, the council heard the 25-cent fare increase would bring in about $700,000 this year and up to $1.2 million in future years.

The increase brings HRM in line with Moncton and Fredericton, where fares are also 3 dollars for adults. However, this is still below places like Quebec City, for example, where riders pay $3.75.

Halifax Transit’s budget for this fiscal year is just under 68.3 million.
