Halifax police lay firearms charges in multiple incidents over the weekend

Regional police have charged two people with firearms related offenses in Halifax.

On Saturday at roughly 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance between two groups of people near Brunswick Street where a man in one of the groups was believed to be in possesion of a firearm.

Police say they found the man at a vehicle nearby and arrested him, along with another man who as in the vehicle, and seized a loaded firearm.

Mohamed Houssen Milad, 22, and Abdullahi Abdi Rizak Ali, were both scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court on Tuesday to face charges of possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm in a vehicle and careless use of a firearm.

Meantime, police laid firearms charges in a separate incident in Dartmouth on Sunday.

At roughly 5 a.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of Woodland Avenue and Highway 118.

Officers stopped the vehicle in the area without incident and when they did, police say they found a loaded firearm in the vehicle and arrested the driver.

Raheem Orlando Munroe, 30, was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Tuesday to face a slew of charges including:

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon or ammo – no license
  • Possession of a firearm – no license/certificate
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Deal with a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order
