Halifax’s police chief is retiring.

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) Chief Dan Kinsella announced his retirement at Wednesday’s board of police commissioners’ meeting, according to the HRP.

The chief said leading HRP has been the highlight of his career, offering thanks for the support he received during his four years with the service.

Kinsella will retire effective Sept. 15, with an interim chief then appointed to lead HRP during the transition.

Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) chief administrative officer (CAO) Cathie O’Toole says the municipality will work closely with the board of commissioners to support a smooth transition.
