Halifax police charge man following vehicle pursuit, thefts

Halifax Regional Police have charged a man following a pursuit and multiple thefts that took place throughout the region.

On Monday at roughly 10:35 p.m., officers tried to stop a vehicle in a parking lot on Wyse Road as the driver was believed to be involved in a number of theft investigations.

According to HRP, the driver refused to stop and struck two police cruisers as he left the parking lot.

Police said they eventually found the vehicle, abandoned on Windmill Road.

With the help of a K-9 team, police said they eventually tracked the driver near MacDonald and Wright Avenues where he was arrested a little before 2 a.m.

Rene Paul Seers, 42, was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court on Tuesday to face a number of charges including:

• Flight from peace officer – failure to stop motor vehicle or vessel while being pursued
• Assault a peace officer with a weapon
• Theft under $5,000 (x8)
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x3)
• Breach of probation (x10)
