Halifax outlines plans for future Cogswell District construction

Construction on the new Cogswell District might have an impact on the commute for some starting a little later this month.

The municipality says phase one of the work begins Oct. 18. That will see Cogswell St. from Brunswick to Barrington streets close until June of 2024. Detours will be in place via Brunswick, Duke or Cornwallis streets during this time.

Then in June, Barrington St. will be closed from the former Cogswell intersection to Duke St. until December 2024.

The construction is expected to impact Halifax Transit routes through the area. There are plans for a new Barrington Street transit terminal as part of the work. .

The construction has a budget of $122 million and is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
