Halifax extends win streak to four with Rimouski rout

The Halifax Mooseheads beat the Rimouski Oceanic 6-2 on Friday night, extending the win streak to four games

The Halifax Mooseheads flexed their special teams muscles en route to a win over the Rimouski Oceanic on Friday night at the Scotiabank Centre. 

It would be Jordan Dumais opening the scoring for Halifax with 36th goal of the regular season. Then a late blast from Jake Furlong sent the Herd to the locker room with a 2-0 lead after the first frame.

Rimouski’s Louis Robin would cut the Mooseheads’ lead in half just two minutes into the second period.

And then some drama at Scotiabank Centre, as Zac Beauregard was tossed from the game and handed a five minute major penalty for high-sticking after a scrum in the corner.

But the Mooseheads penalty kill stood strong, killing off the lengthy penalty before captain Elliot Desnoyers scored his 37th of the season on a Halifax powerplay minutes later.

Rimouski would respond just 24 seconds later as Robin potted his second goal of the night, pulling the game back to within reach for the Oceanic.

But the captain would light the lamp again, as Desnoyer’s 38th of the season gave the Herd a 4-2 lead going into the third.

Mathieu Cataford would score late in the third to make it a three goal game, and Marcus Vidicek put the icing on the cake with an empty netter for a 6-2 Moose win.

Halifax will be back in action on Saturday afternoon for the final home game of the regular season. Puck drop goes at 4 p.m. at Scotiabank Centre and you can listen live on CityNews 95.7.
