Good news for Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

Although the numbers aren’t quite back to pre-pandemic levels, passenger activity was up last year for the first time since before COVID-19 shut down widespread travelling across North America in 2020.

As the airport’s spokesperson Tiffany Chase tells CityNews 95.7, over the winter months, passenger volumes returned to around 84 per cent of prepandemic levels.

“What we saw in 2022, of course, was we were able to surpass the 3-million passenger mark, which was a great milesone coming out of the pandemic,” she says. “But (that) was only about three-quarters of the amount of passengers we had before the pandemic so things are looking up.”

She says the increased volumes have also created some challenges for the airport and passengers including higher demand for parking.

She adds that the nearby Park n’Fly parking lot has reopened just in time to address the demands of March Break travellers.
