Had COVID in the last 90 days? There’s no need to test yourself

If you’ve already had COVID in the last 90 days, there’s no need to test yourself.

“It’s not advised at all,” said the province’s chief medical officer of health at a Wednesday briefing.

“It’s very unlikely that you have COVID, plus your test may still be positive from your prior infection,” Dr. Robert Strang added.

However, he said, if you develop symptoms again within that time frame, you should still stay home until they improve.

Strang said more rapid test kits are on the way to the province and will be heading to schools next week.

“These tests can be used if a student or staff member has symptoms, and because of the potential for ongoing exposures in school, families and staff will have the option to use these tests up to twice weekly, even if they don’t have symptoms,” he stated.

Once the supply is confirmed and it arrives, tests will also be distributed around the province.

“We’re going to be able to reopen other points of community access, whether it’s through primary assessment centres or other community points, like libraries, in the days ahead for people to get rapid kits,” Strang explained.

“But we still have to focus on those who have symptoms or who may be in a place where they’ve been identified as a close contact.”
