Events planned in Halifax for Truth and Reconciliation Day

Tuesday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and the city is hosting a number of events throughout the week to mark the day as well as Mi’kmaw History Month.

The Halifax Regional Municipality says it is inviting residents to join in on recognizing the day, as well as recognizing Treaty Day and Mi’kmaw history month.

Starting Monday, city hall will be lit orange until Wednesday and on Tuesday, the city is inviting residents to take part in activities for all ages hosted by the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., a flag-raising ceremony will take place at Grand Parade, and it will include a reading of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Treaty Day proclamation by Mayor Andy Fillmore.

Meantime, October is Mi’kmaw history month, and HRM says this year’s theme is “storytelling and storytellers” in an effort to honour stories of the Mi’kmaw people shaped by land and waters.
