Evacuees of Ostrea Lake wildfire returning home

A wildfire that forced an evacuation on Sunday, did not grow in size overnight, the latest update reads.

According to officials, teams are back in the forest on June 23, tackling a bush fire near Ostrea Lake, about 50 kilometres east of Halifax. As of Monday, just after noon, residents are allowed to return home.

The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources said just after 9:00 a.m. that the fire is being held at an estimated 30 hectares in size. There are about 20 firefighters on scene and a helicopter standing by, the update reads.

Firefighters are busy dousing flames from Ostrea Lake Road (#320) to the south as far south as Reflection Lake (#655) and Heselton Drive.

The Eastern Shore Community Centre was acting as the evacuation centre for those impacted by the blaze. It is now closed after the order was lifted.

HRM District 2 Councillor David Hendsbee told 95.7 NewsRadio Monday morning that the initial re-entry allowed residents of 34 homes to return to their properties.
