The municipality says the Emera Oval will close for the season on Sunday, March 16, as long as the ice doesn’t melt before then. “Staff monitor ice conditions throughout each day. If ice conditions deteriorate, the Emera Oval may close at any time before the final day,” read a release from the HRM. Due to being refrigerated, it can withstand higher temperatures than natural ice. Warmth is seeping into the province this week, with multiple days over the next week well above 0 C. The sun is expected to beam down on the city, with Tuesday to Friday set to see ample sunshine. People are asked to check the schedule on the city’s website before heading to the Oval as skate times can be delayed or cancelled.
