Downtown Halifax free parking kicks in earlier on Fridays until Christmas

All you have to do is find an on-street parking spot in Zone B and don’t pay after 4 p.m.

From now until Christmas, Haligonians can enjoy a couple of extra hours of on-street free parking Fridays in downtown Halifax.

Usually, free parking kicks in at 6 p.m., but on December 2, 9, 16 and 23, it will start at 4 p.m. in Zone B, courtesy of the Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC).

In a news release, the commission says it hope this will help people give people more time to grab a drink or bite to eat, shop and enjoy the many holiday-themed events and light shows in the downtown core.

“We know parking can sometimes be a deterrent for folks wanting to come downtown and that just shouldn’t be the case. There are actually thousands of parking spaces available to the public in the downtown core,” said DHBC CEO, Paul MacKinnon.

“This free on-street parking offer is DHBC’s way of saying thank you to those wanting to shop local this holiday season. With parking free on Fridays after 4:00 p.m. people will have more time to eat, shop and be entertained.”
