Work started in the fall of 2016 and included: four new operating rooms, doubling the number of operating rooms and increasing the number of surgeries performed new clinical space with more exam and procedure rooms larger waiting and reception areas and office space new space with state-of-the-art equipment for cleaning and sterilizing medical instruments new intensive care unit new pharmacy six more dialysis chairs expanded and more accessible parking lot new main entrance. “This is a brand-new Dartmouth General Hospital,” said the facility’s site medical lead, Dr. Dr. Natalie Cheng, in a news release. “It’s a bright, modern care facility that will greatly improve the patient and family experience and will allow our health care professionals to optimize the way they provide care.” Health and Wellness Minister Michelle Thompson added the state-of-the-art facility should help recruit and retain doctors, nurses and other health professionals. The province says the hospital provides healthcare services to about 300,000 people a year.
