According to a press release, on July 4, around 5:00 p.m., a Toyota Yaris was travelling from Dartmouth when it veered off the road, crashing into the ditch near the northbound lanes of the Bedford Bypass off-ramp. Mounties responding to the scene said the Yaris rolled and landed on its roof and the driver was safely removed from it. When speaking to the 25-year-old driver, officials said they “observed signs of impairment.” She was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Lower Sackville detachment, where she provided breath samples of 210 mg% and 190 mg%, the release notes. The accused was released and is expected to appear in a Dartmouth court at a later date. In a statement RCMP said that, “Impaired driving continues to be a significant factor in preventable crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Nova Scotia roads.” They are asking people to “make safe arrangements before heading out by choosing a designated driver, taking a taxi, or using a rideshare service.” The Halifax Regional Police are also battling similar issues. The force released its impaired driving statistics from May, which showed police charged 50 drivers with impaired-related offences.
