CITYnews halifax: Humidity tracks into Nova Scotia bringing highs around 40

Dangerous heat is coming from Ontario and Quebec to Nova Scotia is expected to bring daytime highs well in the 30s with little relief overnight.

Environment Canada is warning of a heatwave coming to Halifax Regional Municipality starting Thursday and expected to last into Saturday evening. The warm air is bringing humidity, which will make it feel like 40.

On Friday, temperatures are around 29 to 32 C, but will feel more like 36 to 39. Overnight, it is not cooling down, still hovering around 20 C, the forecast shows.

The humidex will rest over the province, making it feel like 40 on Friday. The temperature will drop to 20 C overnight into Saturday before rising back to 31 C, feeling like 38.

“Cooler conditions can be expected along parts of the Atlantic coast,” the weather agency noted.

It is asking people to protect themselves as the extreme heat can impact people, especially those more vulnerable.

“Watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water,” the message reads.
