Search for missing youth in West Hants suspended

The search for a young person still missing after historic flooding in West Hants has been put on hold.

The RCMP announced the suspension of the search on Monday, after continuing to work over the weekend to try to find the youth still unaccounted for.

“Despite an extensive search to date, we, unfortunately, have not yet located the missing youth,” said Superintendent Sean Auld, Support Services Officer for the Nova Scotia RCMP. “As the searchers continued their work over the weekend, they encountered deep pockets of water in the secondary search zone; searching these pockets is too dangerous for searchers, due to the depth of the water.”

Officials said they believed the waters would recede naturally over the next few days which would allow the search to resume.

The youth was among four people swept away on Jul. 22 during torrential rainfall and flooding.
