As the Halifax area recovers from record-setting flooding over the weekend, the municipality has started a registry to get help to people stranded on their properties because of damaged infrastructure.
Director of Emergency Management for Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), Erica Fleck, said Tuesday there are some people stranded because of the serious impacts the flooding has had.
“Whether their road is washed out, there are many driveway culverts that are damaged so they can’t leave their properties,” Fleck told The Todd Veinotte Show. “So we set up that registry for people who have urgent needs so we can get medication to them, or food, any emergency supplies.”
The registry can be found on the City’s website. If people have trouble filling out the online form they’re encouraged to call 3-1-1.
“Registering will assist in identifying critical needs of residents so that the municipality can follow up with relevant resources,” the City’s website said.
People who register should expect a response within 24 hours, it said.
