An 18-year-old Bridgewater man is in hospital with what police describe as life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash in Whynotts Settlement. Officers were dispatched to the scene on Highway 325, about six kilometres (km) outside of Bridgewater, around 6:10 p.m. Wednesday.

The initial investigation showed that a Pontiac G5 had become airborne after leaving the road surface and came to rest in a nearby ditch.

There were five people in the car at the time of the crash. Three passengers in the vehicle’s backseat received minor injuries and were all transported to the hospital for treatment.

Police arrested the car’s driver, a 19-year-old Wileville man, after failing a breathalyzer test at the scene. The man, who also sustained minor injuries in the crash, was released from custody and will appear in court later.

Police closed a section of Highway 325 for several hours on Wednesday, but it was reopened.
