Bouncers at late night bars in Nova Scotia will now be required to have criminal record checks and security training, going forward.

This comes as part of a provincial announcement which says bar security staff will need to take an approved security training course by July 1 in order to work at cabarets.

They will also need to provide a criminal record check on request and complete a responsible beverage service training program.

“Bouncers are there for one reason: to help keep people safe. This new training will give them the tools to better understand how to do that,” said Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services Minister Colton LeBlanc.

The province says it plans on developing a training program but in the meantime, staff will need to complete the Alberta ProTect Security Training Program, offered online.

Any caberet that violates these new licencing requirements could have their liquir license suspended, as a result.
