Man faces new charges after entering homes under false pretenses last month

A man faces new charges after entering two homes under false pretenses in Halifax last month.

On March 25, police were called to an apartment building on the Bedford Highway in connection to a man who pretended to be a representative of the building’s management and was there to do an inspection of the apartment.

Police say the tenant initially let the man in but became uncomfortable with the man’s behaviour and when she called to verify the man’s identity, he left the apartment.

While on scene officers received a second report that a man pretended to be with building management and was there to do an inspection of the apartment.

Police say in this incident, the man assaulted the tenant when she asked him to leave.

The suspect was arrested in the area a short time later without further incident.

Samuel Boimah McGill, 24, was initially charged with two counts of being unlawfully in a dwelling house and one count of assault. But after an ongoing investigation, investigators determined that a sexual assault had occurred in both incidents and the charges were amended on March 30.

McGill’s new charges include two counts of sexual assault, two counts of break and enter and one count of unlawful confinement.

He has been remanded to appear in court a later date.
