RCMP were called to Avon View High School just before noon on Monday after a report that a group of 4 students were seen taking a firearm out of the trunk of a car before entering the school.

Police arrived on the scene and immediately placed the school into lockdown.  Around the same time, a pellet gun was found inside a car in the parking lot.

Officers, with the help of staff at the school, quickly found the four students interviewed inside the principal’s office.

The lockdown was lifted a short time later.

RCMP say their investigation determined that no firearms had entered the school and that none of the youth had threatened the school, students or staff, adding that the pellet gun did not meet the definition of a firearm under the Criminal Code and, as a result, no charges will be laid.

The Mounties remind the public that schools are not the place for weapons or items that can be perceived as a threat to safety.
