You don’t need a ticket to the games to take in the excitement of the World Juniors tournament in downtown Halifax.

#ExploreNB Fan Fest will take place at the Halifax Convention Centre from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. between December 26 and 31, and from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on January 2, 4 and 5.

There, you’ll find live entertainment, viewing parties on big screens, bouncy castles, face painters, mascots and more.

It’s free and open to all ages.

Musical guests include Charlie A’Court, Willie Stratton, The Town Heroes and more.

There will also be an outdoor viewing area in Rogers Square showing all the World Juniors games live.

More information can be found here.

Halifax Regional Police say anyone heading downtown should expect large crowds and traffic delays.

They’ve provided the following tips they say will help everyone safely enjoy the tournament:

  • Check the event’s website to ensure you’re familiar with the venue, its location and the amenities it has to offer.
  • If possible, take public transportation. The tournament draws large crowds, which causes heavy traffic and may make parking difficult.
  • Plan ahead if you’re drinking alcohol or consuming cannabis or other drugs. Never drive impaired. Call a cab, arrange a designated driver or take public transit.
  • It is easy for little ones to become lost in the midst of a large crowd. When you arrive, agree on a meeting place in case you get separated.
  • Always accompany young children to public washrooms and concession stands.
  • Consider carrying an up-to-date photo of your child and make note what they are wearing.
