The Night Before

If you like your Christmas movies a bit saucier than your typical family fare, this one may just be perfect for you.

This raunchy comedy follows three friends who visit Christmas parties all over New York on Christmas Eve. The pals have known each other forever, and they love being in each other’s company.

The strength of director Jonathan Levine’s film is the chemistry between its wonderful leads.

Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are a joy to watch together, and they’re a splendid amount of fun.

Yet somehow, supporting performances from Lizzy Caplan, Mindy Kaling, Jillian Bell and even a quick turn from Michael Shannon only serve to make this one even more grand.

It’s a whole lot of fun – but definitely for adults only. Keep that in mind when you switch this one on.

2 Hearts

An unfortunate victim of the pandemic, this enjoyable little romantic drama had all the right ingredients.

It follows two couples – one whose story unfolds in the past and one in the present – who find themselves interconnected in a beautiful way.

Based on a true story, it follows Chris and Sam, who fall in love in the present. But it also shows us the relationship of Jorge and Leslie, and their life together.

It’s not the most refreshing or new concepts for a film, but it certainly is a fabulous star vehicle for the rising Jacob Elordi.

He made us fall in love in The Kissing Booth series, and our jaws dropped for his turn in Euphoria. This film represents the first time he’s headlined a film on his own, though, and he does fabulous work.

Its release on Netflix should allow more people to see it, and that’s a blessing.

Dash & Lily

One of the absolute worst things Netflix ever did was cancel this adorable little series.

It follows Dash – a young man who hates the Christmas season and everything that comes with it. But things change when he finds a red notebook full of clues at his favourite bookstore.

The owner – Lily – begins to feel a cosmic connection to Dash, and the two begin to develop a beautiful bond.

Austin Abrams and Midori Francis are absolutely adorable here. This one is smart, entirely entertaining, and I was genuinely excited for a new season.

As it stands, it’s worth watching over and over again, even if you continually get flashes of what could have been.

The Lincoln Lawyer

As someone who counts The Lincoln Lawyer film as the thing that began the reinvigoration of Matthew McConaughey’s career, I didn’t want to see anyone else step into the role.

I avoided this show for months, assuming it would be a brutal rehash of the Michael Connelly book series. Boy, was I ever wrong.

Manuel Garcia-Ruffo brings something new and fresh to the role, and under the watching eye of creators David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies, Boston Legal) and Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife), this one stands on its own.

The supporting cast is fabulous and eclectic, from Scream’s Neve Campbell to Angus Sampson, Jazz Raycole, Becki Newton, Christopher Gorham, and The Chi’s Ntare Gu,a Mbaho Mwine.

It’s surprise-a-minute, and I absolutely loved it. You simply have to check it out.

Emily In Paris

I think by this point, we can all agree that Emily In Paris is not an objectively fabulous show.

But it’s comforting and adorable, and sometimes that is literally all you need. Creator Darren Star – of Sex and the City fame – creates binge-worthy TV that never makes you think too hard.

It follows the professional and personal exploits of American marketer Emily, who moves to Paris to give the U.S. perspective to the company’s French subsidiary.

Lily Collins is fabulous, and she’s fun in every single episode. I just adore here, and for her performance alone, this one is worth your time.

The ensemble, however, is so weird and charming that they’ll grow on you. Ashley Park, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Samuel Arnold, the hilarious Bruno Gouery, Lucas Bravo and Lucien Laviscount are fabulous.

I’ve grown to love everyone on the cast, and the seasons just keep getting better. The third one hits this week, and it’s perfect holiday entertainment.
