Home Instead Senior Care has delivered over 22,000 gifts over the past 16 years through its Be a Santa to a Senior program. The group’s director of service and engagement, Brittany Keough, told CityNews Halifax social workers and community members have nominated seniors that are isolated or in need of support, and they have all picked an item they’d like to receive. “Most of them are basic necessities, so pyjamas, robes, slippers, hats, mittens, word searches, personal hygiene products, gift cards,” Keough outlined. The gift requests have been placed on bulbs that are hanging on Christmas trees at the following locations: Home Instead Senior Care – 5991 Spring Garden Road, Suite 425 Halifax The Berkeley Bedford – 2 Convoy Run, Bedford The Berkeley Dartmouth – 35 Eisener Boulevard, Dartmouth The Berkeley Gladstone – 2633 Gladstone Street, Halifax The Berkeley on Pepperell – 6240 Pepperell Street, Halifax Haligonians who want to be Santas to these seniors can pop by those locations, grab a bulb off the tree, buy the gift and return it unwrapped. “The gifts do have to be in by December the 8th,” Keough stated. “That is the deadline so we can make sure they are all wrapped, organized and ready to be delivered.” Halifax Regional Police will be helping make deliveries during the week of December 19.
