Halifax Regional Police (HRP) has issued at least 70 tickets, all related to speeding and other offences, to drivers this week.

According to an HRP news release, the following number of tickets have been issued as of Wednesday morning:

  • 12 for speeding
  • 14 for invalid safety inspections
  • 11 for no insurance
  • 33 for other offences, such as driving without a valid license

“We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe,” HRP says in the news release. “If you see someone driving dangerously, report it to police by calling 911.”

On Tuesday, officers spent time patrolling the Purcells Cove Road and Albert Walker Drive areas for traffic safety violations.

Last week, HRP issued 110 tickets on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sixty-one of those were for speeding, six were for using a cellphone while driving and 43 were for other offences.

HRP’s theme for last month was “speeding and aggressive driving,” where officers focused on those areas when patrolling.

In Nova Scotia, the fine for a first-time speeding offence is $237.50 and two points on your licence if you exceed 1-15km/h above the speed limit.

That jumps to $295 and three points on your license if you exceed 16-30km/h above the speed limit; it rises to $410 and four points on your license for speeding 31km/h or more.

Stunting in Nova Scotia comes with a fine of $2,422.50 for a first offence, along with six points on your license and an immediate seven-day roadside license suspension.
